Stroke is the third leading cause of death behind diseases of the heart and cancer and the most important reason for medical disability.
Approximately five in every 1,000 people overall and three in every 100 people aged 65 years and above suffer a stroke in industrialised countries.

A stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks a vessel or artery, or when a blood vessel breaks, interrupting blood flow to an area of the brain. When a stroke occurs, it kills brain cells in the immediate area. This can happen anywhere from a few minutes after the stroke start to a few hours later.


Indicated as thrombolytic treatment in acute ischaemic stroke.


Indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients who have had transient ischaemia of the brain or completed ischaemic stroke due to thrombosis.
