| Antiplatelet therapy in cerebrovascular disease: review of recent trials and clinical implications |

In the December issue of Clinical Cardiology, Dan James Fintel, MD, provides an overview of all relevant clinical trials comparing different antiplatelet regimes for secondary stroke prevention and a review of current practice guidelines. Results from clinical trials suggest that the selection of an agent must be based on patient history and balance potential benefits vs. bleeding risks. Recent trials indicate that extended-release dipyridamole plus aspirin may be more effective than clopidogrel in most patients, and results from the ongoing PRoFESSŪ trial will provide greater clarity in the coming years.
